Comedy Central‘s Jon Stewart ridiculed the Obama administration’s handling of the September 11th attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya Monday, offering a step-by-step overview of what various government mouthpieces have said at different times over the past few weeks.
“Transparency, openness, clear lines of communication– they‘re not just phrases you vaguely hear your wife saying while you’re trying to watch the Giants game,” Stewart began. “They’re also important hallmarks of a successful administration, and they‘re the subject of tonight’s installment of our new series, ‘You Guys Ever Talk to Each Other…?’”
Stewart began with Carney’s September 14th assertion that the government is still gathering all the facts, and would therefore not comment on whether U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in a terrorist attack.
He noted, however, that the administration did not hesitate to establish a narrative based on what he referred to as their “hunch” that an anti-Islam YouTube video was responsible.
“That thing’s like [the movie] The Ring,” Stewart lamented sarcastically. “Three days after you watch it, embassies just burst into flames!”
